About
Concept
Ballet Unleashed is a leading catalyst for groundbreaking and dynamic employment opportunities for dance artists across the globe. Through diverse, inclusive and sustainable mediums of engagement, we aim to create lasting, global connections between artists and the public, vital for the evolution of culturally rich and innovative societies.
Emerging and established choreographers from across the globe create new works for graduating ballet students, helping to expand dancers’ boundaries and support their growth as artists through mentorship and coaching. Ballet Unleashed brings the art form to life beyond traditional presentation formats, and revolutionizes how ballet can become more engaging and relevant than ever before, transforming audience’s experiences for the better.
How
Multiple choreographic projects will be initiated simultaneously, with dance groups based in regions around the world. Some projects may be broad while others may focus on time zones and/or geographic locations.
As diversity and inclusion is a key priority for Canada’s National Ballet School, Dutch National Ballet Academy, Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the dance world, Ballet Unleashed values and promotes diversity and inclusion in its staff, dancers, creators, creations and partners.
Goals
The universal language of dance has the ability to unite people, contribute to resilient communities, and improve quality-of-life. A dancer’s first year(s) seeking employment, or joining a company, are extremely formative; a time of discovery, both as an artist and as an individual.
This new initiative aims to offer new, lasting employment structures and creative formats for emerging artists that complement or bypass traditional ones. Ballet Unleashed provides young dancers with opportunities to access auditions, participate in the creative process, collaborate with artists in the field, build their resumes and receive mentorship, now and into the future.
Collaborators
This initiative is led by Canada’s National Ballet School, Dutch National Ballet Academy, and Palucca University of Dance Dresden — in collaboration with eight additional schools, including The Ailey School, The Australian Ballet School, Ballet School of the Opera National de Paris, Boston Ballet School, New Zealand School of Dance, San Francisco Ballet School, The Royal Ballet School and Royal Danish Ballet School.
